JWD InfoLogistics Plc. (JWD) demonstrates its capability as the leading provider of integrated logistics services in ASEAN through implementing the innovative "DG-Total" dangerous goods management system that enhances safety, reduces impacts to the environment and community, and convinces the SET to include JWD in its Thailand Sustainability Investment 2018 list.
Mr. Charvanin Bunditkitsada, Chairman of the Executive Committee and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of JWD InfoLogistics Public Company Limited (JWD), has revealed that the company has been successful in being selected by the Stock Exchange of Thailand for inclusion in the Thailand Sustainability Investment (THSI) 2018 list on the strength of its environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance. This honor, he says, will reflect positively in wider interest of investors who are looking to invest in sustainable businesses.
The main reason behind JWD being selected a THSI company is its mode of operations based on good governance which pays special attention to reducing environmental and social impacts on surrounding communities. For example, JWD has designed its buildings with an eye toward energy conservation, installed a solar energy system, implemented waste management system, and organized natural and environmental conservation activities.
At the same times, JWD has introduced the "DG-Total" system to manage the handling of dangerous goods in an integrated manner in order to boost safety and reduce environmental and social impacts. JWD is the only logistics firm to be granted a concession by the Port Authority of Thailand to provide services associated with the handling and storage of dangerous goods within the Laem Chabang Port area in Chonburi province under the supervision of the Laem Chabang Port Authority.
The DG-Total system is considered a prototype for the management of dangerous goods in countries which desire to create measures to guarantee safety from upstream to downstream under the “Safety First” concept.
The system contains four essential components (1) A networking and communication system for dangerous goods or DG-NET serving as the information system center for dangerous goods and chemicals. It contains complete information about hazardous substances and methods for handling them in order to provide timely emergency response. It allows all concerned agencies to access the information from anywhere at any time to track and trace cargoes. (2) Installation of software to manage the container yards and warehouses with clearly allocated spaces for each type of dangerous goods to prevent substance and chemical reactions. JWD is the first in ASEAN and second in the world to use the Differential-GPS (D-GPS) system to quickly and accurately identify the location of goods. (3) Formation of a center for dangerous goods safety, staffed 24-7 by emergency response personnel, chemists and dangerous goods experts. The team holds regular drills on emergency handling with relevant state agencies and private organizations. (4) Introduction of an up-to-standard, shipside dangerous goods management system including requirements that all vehicles carrying dangerous goods must be equipped with safety equipment according to customers’ standard or legal requirements, must have liability insurance, and must have a GPS system installed. All drivers must be in possession of a Category 4 driver license and must pass random alcohol and narcotic drug tests before performing duties.
"The introduction of the DG-Total system will enhance safety, reduce accidents, and prevent problems with dangerous goods and chemicals whether they happen on ships while they dock or load or unload. At the same time, the system helps maintain a database of cargoes in a systematic manner, replacing the more complicated paper documentation. It also makes real-time searches of information possible, enabling timely emergency response and reducing possible losses. On top of that, we also serve as a knowledge center to provide information and organize training and seminars on dangerous goods," Mr. Charvanin says.
